Dave i am going to put some feeders out on some hedgrows on one of the farms i can shoot on.
The blue tub feeders are what i am going to make with the spring in the bottom.
Is there a set hight for the spring from the floor or a rule of thumb measurement.
Cheers, daz. Smile

Daz. I make mine approx 17" from ground to base of drum for pheasants and have a few about 12" where the odd redlegs knocks about. A couple of suggestions :- If the drums are the smaller ones(25l. I think) with 2 handles near the top, they can also be hung from sturdy branches, this stops deer knocking them over, the other, if you do have deer or badger problems with legged ones, is to get some "badger spikes" or "deer guards" from Patrick Pinkers. Cheapest place for springs used to be Collins Nets, but can be got from Pinkers. Another tip, if you can get hold of any of those 2'x2' thin concrete slabs, put them under feeder, it stops ruddy great hole appearing underneath. Smile
Hope you ain't got many squirrels, they love blue plastic Very Happy
I'll find links and post when I can dig em out.
Dave

Springs- £1.30, Guards-£2.50, Spikes-47p

Collins nets now seem to be dearer, but catalogue worth a look at

Oh, if you've got a mig welder, put another couple of spot welds where the spring meets the base, some are a bit crap, think they come from China now Sad
Cheers

Depends on delivery charges and size of feeders, unless you can collect. Sounds a reasonable price, BUT, bulky item to deliver.
Upright feeders really need tannalised or rot treatment on legs, especially on the base ends, bang go the days when you could soak the ends in creosote Sad
Any pickle factories around you? All gone here, but could get drums for bugger all, now I get them through contacts(Rocking horse shit springs to mind Sad ). Any engineering firms??? that use chains, they come in useable STEEL drums, squiz proof Smile

Can get some tubs from a farmer mate old feed tubs.
Wood from merchants of old pallets.
Springs from ebay or the place you suggested.

Time is the main factor for me. Have the van so could pickup a few pre made.
Will have to see what funds are like then decide.
Thanks for the help mate Smile

Daz.

Daz.
Have a look at these on Ebay, item No. 320499823446, Nuneaton way. Not too far from your area.
